See below for video of Sen. Mark Warner, speaking on the Senate floor last night – after the shocking, appalling events of yesterday. Sen. Warner said he was still “pretty reeling from what happened today.” Sen. Warner talked about the bipartisan report the Senate Intelligence Committee put out regarding foreign interference in our elections. Sen. Warner said that the top recommendation was:
“Any official or candidate should use restraint and caution when questioning results of our elections, because when you do so, you often carry out the goals of our foreign adversaries…Their goals are pretty simple: they want to make it appear to Americans, to folks around the world, to their own people, that there’s nothing special about American democracy...”
Sen. Warner then held up a photo of “thugs – thugs! – in the halls of this capital, diminishing everything we say we believe in in this democracy,” and added that “those images are priceless for our adversaries.” Sen. Warner said it’s time to “start restoring trust that of our people and hopefully the billions of people around the world who believe in that notion of American democracy.”
