Here we are, about a month after we first started seeing Virginians get vaccinated for COVID-19, and while vaccination numbers are trending in the right direction – we’re now at 15k/day on average – we’re still not even close to Gov. Northam’s goal of 50k/day in order to reach “herd immunity” over the next few months. Remember, people need two injections of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, and the population of Virginia is 8.5 million, so that’s 17 million total shots needed to vaccinate everyone. Quick calculation:
- At 15k/day, that would be 450k/month…about 38 months to get everyone fully vaccinated.
- At 50k/day, that would be 750k/month…about 23 months to get everyone fully vaccinated.
- At 50k/day, that would be 1.5m/month…about 11 months to get everyone fully vaccinated.
So yeah, we really need to crank it up from 15k shots per day if we ever want to get out of this COVID-19 nightmare we’re stuck in…
