From the Democratic Party of Virginia:
Do the Republican Candidates for Governor Support Critical Relief for Virginia Families, Schools, and Small Businesses?
Richmond, VA — Today, as the U.S. Senate moves forward on the American Rescue Plan, Virginians deserve to know where the Republican candidates for governor stand on this crucial bill. Do they support legislation to tackle the ongoing public health and economic crises, or do they stand with their DC allies needlessly delaying relief to Americans in need?
The American Rescue Plan provides a path forward to defeat the pandemic and build a better future for Virginia and the country. This bill focuses on:
- Direct relief to those who need it now
- Increased resources for a national COVID-19 vaccine distribution program
- Extended unemployment insurance for struggling Americans
- Resources and assistance to reopen schools safely
- Relief for small businesses and essential frontline workers
This week, over 400 national and local organizations from across the country urged the Senate to pass the bill, emphasizing the role it will play in beating the pandemic and saving our economy. Poll after poll shows the bill is incredibly popular, but DC Republicans are standing in the way of getting critical relief to Americans. Will Virginia Republicans condemn their obstructionism, or will they oppose this immensely popular legislation?
“This bill will provide critical relief for working families, small businesses, schools, and struggling communities across Virginia,” said Manuel Bonder, DPVA spokesman. “Virginia Republicans should call on their allies in the United States Senate to stop their hyper-partisan obstructionism and pass the American Rescue Plan, or explain to Virginians why they oppose it.”
