Richmond, VA — Glenn Youngkin has made clear that if given the opportunity, he plans to imitate Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Youngkin is already modeling himself after DeSantis and has even told Virginians that the failed Florida Governor is where he looks to lead. 

Now, as COVID-19 cases skyrocket in Florida, Ron DeSantis is taking his anti COVID safety crusade to a dangerous new low: punishing school districts for trying to keep kids safe. Youngkin’s commitment to following DeSantis’ dangerous failed leadership poses a grave threat to Virginia students, families, and entire communities. As reported by The Washington Post:

“When asked in a radio interview this month if he would follow the lead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and prohibit local school boards officials from requiring masks, he said he would, proclaiming that “there should be no mask mandates in Virginia.”

As the disaster unfolding in Florida worsens, it is clear that Virginia cannot afford a so-called leader as reckless as Glenn Youngkin.

“The Youngkin-DeSantis agenda is clear: endangering students and families, threatening schools, and prolonging the COVID-19 pandemic,” said DPVA spokesman Manuel Bonder. “Youngkin’s commitment to following in the footsteps of his role model Ron DeSantis would be a disaster for Virginia. Youngkin will put his extreme right wing politics ahead of the health and safety of Virginians every step of the way. He belongs nowhere near the governorship.”
