See below for a press release regarding Glenn Youngkin’s pick – George “Bryan” Slater – for Virginia Secretary of Labor. A few “highlights” (using that word loosely) about this guy include:
- Slater “served as Secretary of Administration for Governor James Gilmore (R-VA) and as Director of Administration for the Attorney General’s Office under Attorney General James Gilmore”
- “Most recently, Bryan served as Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management at the U.S. Department of Labor and Assistant Secretary of Administration for the U.S. Department of Transportation under President Trump.”
- “He was the White House Liaison at the U.S. Department of Labor under President George W. Bush, where he managed all non-career appointee hiring, and as a congressional relations officer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush.”
- “Bryan has served in numerous senior positions in non-profit organizations including Americans United for Life, Freedom Partners Shared Services, and Generation Opportunity. He was also the former Executive Director of the Republican Party of Georgia.”
- Americans United for Life is an “anti-abortion law firm and advocacy group” which “opposes abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, embryonic stem cell research, and certain contraceptive methods,” and which “has been influential in the spread of Heartbeat legislation across a number of American states.”
- Freedom Partners Shared Services is “a 501(c)(4) nonprofit that provides administrative support, human resources, and recruitment services for Koch-funded entities.“
- And “Generation Opportunity” was “a sister organization to the Americans for Prosperity-led political network initially funded by the Koch family.” The group “campaigned against the Affordable Care Act.”
So…what are Virginia Senate Democrats going to do about *this* pick? Hopefully reject it…along with Andrew Wheeler for Secretary of Natural Resources.
