VSDC Responds to Sen. Chase’s Delivery of Election Fraud Evidence to Attorney General Miyares

RICHMOND, Va.: Today, Sen. Amanda Chase (R – Chesterfield) delivered evidence of alleged election fraud in Virginia to the office of Attorney General Jason Miyares.

On February 1, 2022, Sen. Chase refused to provide such evidence to the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee unless the Committee passed her bill to require forensic audits of all elections in the Commonwealth. Former Attorney General Mark Herring had requested the evidence, to which Sen. Chase did not respond.

Majority Leader Dick Saslaw said: “Spending taxpayer dollars attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election is a grossly irresponsible expenditure. Attorney General Miyares should not consider this ‘investigation’ based on the Big Lie and misinformation, particularly when his office can’t keep up with the work they already have. Senator Chase should re-evaluate her priorities to addressing the legitimate needs of the Commonwealth instead of wasting time and money on lies and grandstanding.”

Caucus Chair Mamie Locke said: “Senator Chase’s refusal to provide the evidence of election fraud to a Democrat-led Senate Committee while she offers the information to the Republican Attorney General is an obvious attempt to skirt the legislative process in achieving her lie-based goals.

“Senator Chase should be careful what she asks for–not only would a statewide forensic audit of elections cost our localities hundreds of millions of dollars each year, it could invalidate election results she has deemed legitimate–including her own.”

Privileges and Elections Committee Chair Adam Ebbin said: “Contrary to what is spewed on far-right cable news, there has never been evidence of significant voter fraud in the Commonwealth or the United States. Senator Chase refuses to accept that truth, and wastes our time and taxpayer dollars on unfounded, politically-motivated attempts to subvert the will of the electorate. We must focus on what really matters to Virginians.”
