See below for a press release from the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, regarding the resignation of Del. Mark Keam (D-Vienna/Fairfax) from the House of Delegates. The rumor for a couple months now has been that Keam will be joining the Biden administration, and that is confirmed by this press release. Also, at least two Democrats are angling for this overwhelmingly “blue” seat: 1) “BRAWS” (“Bringing Resources to Aid Women’s Shelters”) Founder Holly Seibold; 2) Fairfax County School Board member Karl Frisch. May the best Democrat win!
P.S. This seems like a good move for Keam, and I wish him luck in his new job!
Fairfax Democrats Congratulate Delegate Mark Keam for Over a Decade of Public Service
FAIRFAX – Fairfax County Democratic Committee Chair Bryan Graham released the following statement regarding Delegate Mark Keam’s (D – 35th District) resignation from the House of Delegates in order to serve in the Biden-Harris Administration:
“Today, Delegate Mark Keam announced that he has resigned from the General Assembly. We thank Mark for more than a decade of public service in the House of Delegates and honor the history he made as the first Asian-born immigrant and the first Korean American elected to any state-level office in Virginia. While we wait to hear when the special election to replace Del. Keam will happen, FCDC is formalizing its plans to operate an open and fair process to choose our nominee. We will ensure that a Democrat remains representing the people of Dunn Loring, Tysons, Vienna, and Oakton in the current 35th House District.”
Delegate Mark Keam was first elected in 2009 to the Virginia House of Delegates, the oldest continuous legislative body in the world. Democrats have won every election for the 35th House District since 2003.
