See below for video of today’s historic final meeting of the January 6th House Select Committee, as well as reactions and other information. To read the introductory material tot he Committee’s final report, click here. Note that it was Virginia’s own Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA02) who moved “that the committee favorably report to the House the Select Committee’s final report which includes the Committee’s legislative recommendations and criminal referrals of Donald J. Trump and others.” That motion carried unanimously. Also, as Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) put it in explaining the Committee’s criminal referrals to the Justice Department:
“An insurrection is a rebellion against the authority of the United States. It is a grave federal offense, anchored in the constitution itself, which repeatedly opposes insurrections and domestic violence, and indeed uses participation in insurrection by officeholders as automatic grounds for disqualification from ever holding public office again at the federal or state level. ANYONE who incites others to engage in rebelling, assists them in doing so, or gives aid and comfort to those engaged in insurrection, is guilty of a federal crime.”
Pretty clear, no?
Rep. Elaine Luria: “Donald Trump lit the flame, poured gasoline on the fire, and sat in the White House dining room for hours watching the fire burn as rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol. Today, he continues to fan those flames. This was his dereliction of duty.”
