BURKE, VA – Democrat Henri’ Thompson, Ed.D., announced today, his candidacy for the Virginia House of Delegates District 15. The district, redrawn by the Supreme Court of Virginia (SCV) in December 2021, includes Burke and portions of Fairfax, Fairfax Station, and Springfield.
“Access to a high-quality education has the power to change lives, reduce income inequality, and expand the economic competitiveness of communities. Unfortunately, Glenn Youngkin thinks our educational challenges can be solved in a lab or with a tip line,” Thompson stated. “It is critical in our race towards making Virginia the number one state in America for education and regaining our top position as America’s top state for business, that we Turn Virginia Blue and Save Virginia from the divisive policies of the radical right.”
A teacher, small business owner, non-profit executive, and former advisor to U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, Dr. Thompson’s campaign is focused on creating equal opportunities for everyone to succeed and service above self. Across the Commonwealth and in our communities, Dr. Thompson is fighting politics that seek to undermine Virginians’ rights including reproductive rights, access to abortion, and affordable birth control. He will defend and protect progress made on climate change, civil rights, gun safety, health care, LGBTQ+ equality, public education, and other issues.
In 2021 and 2022, Dr. Thompson organized and led the campaign that secured more than $9 million in bonuses for public school teachers and staff in Richmond.
Inspired by opportunities to serve others, Dr. Thompson previously worked in leadership positions at Johns Hopkins University & Medicine, Maryland State Retirement and Pension System, the U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Majority Whip, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in New York.
Dr. Thompson earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a doctorate from Virginia State University.
