See below for some comments by Virginians on the quite possible arrest of former President Donald Trump in the near future – maybe in next week. So far, basically ZERO Virginia elected Republicans have said a word about this, even though Trump is the leader of their party. Very telling. As for those who HAVE commented:
- Former LG Bill Bolling, a conservative Republican who may very well end supporting dictator-wannabe Ron DeSantis for president, writes, “A responsible leader would assure his supporters he had done nothing wrong [note: in Trump’s case, he’s committed MANY, SERIOUS crimes], tell them to trust the legal process, and call for calm [note: Trump incited a violent mob to try to destroy our democracy and steal an election, so…nope, he’s certainly not going to do THAT!]. This tells you all you need to know about Trump. Everything is about him and him alone.”
- Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA05) says Trump’s “language is unacceptable.”
- UVA Professor Larry Sabato, who is not a partisan figure or a politician but is a top political analyst, says “it’s wise to prepare for potential violence from the far-right and white supremacists.”
- Finally, note that Speaker Kevin McCarthy, while not a Virginian, was supported by Virginia Representatives Rob Wittman (R-VA01), Jen Kiggans (R-VA02), Ben Cline (R-VA06) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA09). McCarthy is busy attacking what he (falsely, dangerously) calls “an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump.” Utterly appalling, irresponsible, insane comments by McCarthy…who gives new meaning to the term “McCarthyism.”
