Glenn Youngkin Names Former Aide to Far-Right-Extremist Bob Good to VA Board of Education; Appointee “has denied the separation of church and state,” “spoken out against Gavin Grimm” etc.

Youngkin also names a replacement for ousted Secretary of Public Instruction Jillian Balow, who "will receive $266,213 in 24 semi-monthly settlement payments over the next year"

Glenn Youngkin continues his war on public education in Virginia, this morning naming a former top staffer to far-right/theocratic/fascistic Rep. Bob Good (R-VA05), Dale Sturdifen, to the Virginia Board of Education. As reporter Ben Paviour points out, “In social media posts, Sturdifen has denied the separation of church and state, questioned the sincerity of 2020 racial justice protestors and spoken out against Gavin Grimm.” Sounds like this guy will fit right in with Youngkin’s many other horrendous picks for boards and commissions.

P.S. Also, see below for other education news this morning, as Youngkin appoints Tennessee Chief Academic Officer Lisa Coons as Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction, after he apparently fired Jillian Balow, who “will receive $266,213 in 24 semi-monthly settlement payments over the next year, according to confidential severance terms that the Richmond Times-Dispatch obtained through a public records request.”
