Some of the “community leaders” Youngkin’s citing in support of his anti-LGBTQ “Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students” include: Alliance Defending Freedom, Heritage Action, Family Foundation, Concerned Women for America of Virginia, etc. These groups are all really bad (see below for some screenshots of information about them):
- Alliance Defending Freedom is described as a “conservative Christian legal advocacy group” which the Southern Poverty Law Center calls “an anti-LGBT hate group.”
- Another “community leader,” Parents Defending Education Action, is a group that’s focused on “fighting indoctrination in the classroom,” that “opposes the factual teaching of racism in schools,” and whose president ” is closely affiliated with the Koch network.”
- Then there’s Concerned Women for America, which “is a socially conservative, evangelical Christian non-profit women’s legislative action committee ” that “aims to incorporate Christian ideology.”
- And there’s the Family Foundation of Virginia, “a socially conservative and Christian fundamentalist lobbying organization” which “was focused originally on opposition to sex education” and “has expanded to opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment, nondiscrimination policies, and same-sex marriage” as well as support for “legal conversion therapy for minors and increased legal restriction on abortion.”
Getting the picture here? These are the groups who Youngkin considers to be “community leaders” who, he tous, “praise” his anti-LGBTQ “model policies.” Disturbing.
