As you can see from the following images, Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02) will be a “special guest” at a fundraiser (at the home of the Seguras, presumably including 2023 Republican nominee for VA State Senate Juan Pablo Segura) for State Senator John McGuire (R), who is challenging Kiggans’ colleague, Rep. Bob Good (R-VA05), in a primary this coming June. What’s notable about Kiggans’ support for McGuire is:
- First off, Kiggans is doing something very unusual, namely supporting an intra-party challenge to her Republican colleague in the Virginia Congressional delegation. Presumably, Kiggans must really hate Good – and for “Good” reason, because that guy is undoubtedly horrendous – but it also could be part of Kiggans’ efforts to curry favor with Donald Trump, given that Good was a Ron DeSantis supporter, and that a big part of McGuire’s argument for challenging Good is that he (McGuire) is 100% loyal to the cult leader (Trump), while Good is a disloyal apostate.
- Note that Kiggans is also tight with the odious Rep. Elise Stefanik (R), who is auditioning for the possible role of Trump’s running mate. So clearly, Kiggans has her eyes set on something – maybe an appointment in a second Trump administration, if god forbid Trump were to win this November?
- Of course, Kiggans herself is in a district that Biden narrowly won in 2020, meaning that Kiggans is in serious jeopardy of losing her seat this November. The question for Kiggans’ Democratic opponent – presumably Missy Cotter Smasal – will be whether, and to what extent, to highlight Kiggans’ support for extremists and insurrectionists like Stefanik and McGuire, as well as Kiggans’ endorsement (see below) of Trump himself.
