Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff Rallies Voters in Virginia in Labor Day Push Ahead of Early Voting

Yesterday, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff joined Senator Tim Kaine as special guests at Congressman Bobby Scott’s 47th Annual Labor Day Cookout that drew over 1,400 people from across the Hampton Roads region.

Congressman Scott’s Annual Labor Day Cookout is a major event in Virginia politics with faith leaders, labor leaders, and HBCU students less than three weeks before the beginning of early voting on September 20.

Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff got the word out about Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, and Congressman Scott’s strong support for union workers – a sharp contrast with Donald Trump, the most anti-worker and anti-union president in recent history, who created new incentives for companies to ship jobs overseas and lined the pockets of the ultra-wealthy and big corporations at the expense of the middle class.

“Kamala is pro-worker, she’s pro-business, and she’s pro-family. Donald Trump is pro-himself,” said Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff. “So this is a binary choice, this is an election on who better understands what you go through, what your family goes through. I think about people like my brother, who was a firefighter, he just retired, a proud member of IAFF – I asked him if it was okay if I talked about him and he sent me his alumni union card… that’s who she’s fighting for. Did Donald Trump make anyone’s life better when he was president? Do you think he cares about you? Of course not.”

Other highlights from Labor Day:

Elsewhere, Team Harris-Walz and the Democratic Party of Virginia had a strong presence at Labor Day events across the commonwealth to highlight how Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Tim Walz and Democrats are fighting for a future where every worker can join a union and bargain for better wages, better benefits, and better lives.
