“Kamala Harris has laid out a plan for how she will build on the Affordable Care Act [and IRA] to bring down the cost of prescription medication […] and expand health care coverage,” said David Toscano, former House of Delegates Democratic Leader. “[Trump] wanted to, from the time he took office, to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it. […] Another four years later, we still don’t know what Trump’s plan is to deal with health insurance in this country. That is not someone we should elect to be president.”
“Donald Trump has promised to gut the ACA and reverse over a decade of progress, and this wouldn’t be the first time he tried to do so. As president, Trump repeatedly tried to cut Medicare and get rid of the ACA,” said Delegate Amy Laufer. “The 1.1 million Virginians who rely on the ACA for health care need quality coverage, not concepts.”
“It is not appropriate for [Trump] to say he has ‘concepts of a plan’ for health care. ‘Concepts’ don’t give insulin to diabetics. ‘Concepts’ don’t fill prescriptions for seniors. ‘Concepts’ do not lower our medical health care costs,” said Delegate Katrina Callsen. “President Trump only looks out for himself. Last week, he doubled down on his plans to drag us into the past, saying once again, he is absolutely going to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which would mean higher health care costs for all of us, and it would also mean that more than 1 million Virginians would be in jeopardy of losing their health care coverage.”
“[Trump’s] Project 2025 agenda would gut the Affordable Care Act, jack up health care costs, including prescription drug prices, and threaten coverage for people like myself with pre-existing conditions,” said Mara Shapiro, Virginian directly impacted by the ACA. “When I watched the debate last week, I saw two versions of my future, one with Trump, where I would live in fear every single day over what my life as a young adult with chronic illness would become, and one with Vice President Harris, where my health care is protected and where I’m not limited by my medical conditions and I get to continue chasing my dreams.”
