BREAKING: Del. Kannan Srinivasan Wins Democratic Nomination for Upcoming (1/7/25) Virginia SD32 Special Election

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Congratulations to Del. Kannan Srinivasan on winning the Democratic nomination in SD32 this evening. Next up – winning the special election on January 7, 2025, so that Democrats maintain their narrow 21-19 majority in the State Senate! I’ll post final vote totals for all the candidates as soon as I get them.

P.S. The vacancy occurred because current State Senator Suhas Subramanyam won the race to succeed Rep. Jennifer Wexton (who is retiring due to health issues) in VA10.

Final vote totals (6,065 total votes):

Kannan Srinivasan: 2,698 (44.5%)
Ibraheem Samirah: 1,288 (21.2%)
Buta Biberaj: 823 (13.6%)
Sree Nagireddi: 574 (9.5%)
Hurunnessa Fariad: 428 (7.1%)
Puja Khanna: 254 (4.2%)

Note: SD32 Republicans selected their nominee this evening as well, with just 1,673 votes cast (compared to nearly 6,000 cast in the SD32 Democratic nomination contest today)!
