Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia “Pink Out The Capitol” for Reproductive Freedom Ahead of Constitutional Amendment Vote
Richmond, Va — Today, over 100 passionate supporters of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia (PPAV) gathered at the Virginia General Assembly to rally for reproductive freedom and build momentum for a critical constitutional amendment protecting reproductive rights. Wearing bright pink “Reproductive Freedom 2026” shirts, advocates met with more than forty legislators, urging them to prioritize the passage of a constitutional amendment to protect reproductive freedom.
PPAV supporters reinforced the need for a constitutional safeguard that guarantees Virginians the right to make their own reproductive decisions without interference from politicians. Advocates called for expanded access to contraception and the protection of abortion providers and patients, and they firmly opposed any attempts to undermine these essential rights.
Jamie Lockhart, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:
“Today, Virginians from every part of the commonwealth came together to demand that reproductive freedom be enshrined in our constitution. Over the past few years, we’ve seen alarming attacks on reproductive rights, and it’s time for us to protect the right to reproductive freedom once and for all. Decisions about pregnancy, including abortion and contraception, are deeply personal and should remain between individuals and their health care providers, free from government intrusion. Recent polling suggests 61% of Virginians already support this amendment.
Our work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to build momentum and educate Virginians about the importance of protecting reproductive freedom in our constitution. In 2026, voters will have the chance to make history, and we’re committed to making sure that every Virginian has the opportunity to vote for a future where reproductive freedom is protected, for generations to come.”
The event also served as a call to action for continued grassroots organizing. Advocates discussed strategies for mobilizing support across the commonwealth, building a broad coalition of Virginians who believe reproductive freedom should be protected under the law. They noted that a majority of Virginians already support the idea of a constitutional amendment to safeguard abortion rights.
