As Abigail Spanberger notes, House Republicans – including ALL of them from Virginia – are busy “working to undo the progress we’ve made and take away healthcare from Virginia families, threaten the survival of our rural hospitals, and drive up healthcare premiums for working Virginians.” By the way, Glenn Youngkin signed a friggin’ letter “supporting bill that would cut billions from Medicaid,” and Winsome Earle-Sears hasn’t uttered a peep of opposition (because, obviously, she’ll do whatever Trump wants).
Spanberger Statement Marking Seven Years Since Virginia’s Medicaid Expansion Was Signed Into Law
Spanberger: “Congressional Republicans Are Working to Undo the Progress We’ve Made and Take Away Healthcare From Virginia Families”
More Than 250,000 Virginians Would Lose Access to Affordable Healthcare Coverage Under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” Passed by U.S. House Republicans
RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement ahead of the seventh anniversary of Governor Ralph Northam signing Virginia’s Medicaid expansion into law — and reaffirming her commitment to protecting healthcare as Republicans in Washington try to take away affordable coverage from more than 250,000 Virginians.
“Seven years ago this Saturday, Virginia took a historic step forward — capping a years-long, bipartisan effort to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare for hundreds of thousands of Virginians across our Commonwealth.
“No matter where I am in Virginia, I’m hearing from parents, seniors, Veterans, and other members of our communities who count on this critical lifeline to access lifesaving treatment. Notably, they are also deeply alarmed that politicians in Washington are willfully jeopardizing their care. Instead of listening to their constituents, congressional Republicans are working to undo the progress we’ve made and take away healthcare from Virginia families, threaten the survival of our rural hospitals, and drive up healthcare premiums for working Virginians.
“Virginians deserve leaders who will stand up for them. Virginians deserve a Governor who will work to expand Virginians’ access to quality, affordable coverage. And as the next Governor of Virginia, I will stand up to reckless attempts to weaken Virginians’ access to care, take decisive action to lower prescription drug and healthcare costs, and bring people together to make our Commonwealth more affordable.”
