WINSOME, LOSE SOME: As Labor Day Weekend Approaches, Sears’ Opposition to Legal Protections for Gay Virginians Resurfaces
VIRGINIA – As Labor Day approaches and campaign season kicks into high gear, a questionnaire exposing Winsome Earle-Sears’ long record of attacking Virginians’ fundamental rights has been exposed.
SETTLING THIS WEEK’S SCORE
Winsome’s Wins:
- FOIA Request Fulfilled: As Winsome Earle-Sears continues to refuse to tell Virginians what she is up to — from not disclosing secret flights and gifted travel to refusing to respond to FOIA requests for information on what she’s doing in her taxpayer-funded job — the Democratic Party of Virginia put together a list of Sears’ record in office, including dismissing threats to Virginia’s economy and workforce and threatening Virginians’ fundamental freedoms.
- Is That Your Final Answer?: New reporting from the Virginia Mercury details that Winsome Earle-Sears said in a candidate questionnaire that she would oppose workplace protections for gay people, block same-sex couples from adopting children and that she believes homosexuality is an “immoral lifestyle choice.”
Winsome’s Losses:
- The Cost of Backing Trump: The Spanberger for Governor campaign released a new TV and digital ad slamming Winsome Earle-Sears for cheering on and praising Trump’s tax law that will raise costs on Virginia families.
- On the Case: While Sears continues to refuse to disclose secret flights and gifted trips, potentially violating Virginia ethics laws, Virginia reporters are continuing to ask what happened with Sears “mystery flight” and staying on the case.
- Affordability Crisis Looms: As Winsome Earle-Sears backs Donald Trump’s attacks on Virginia jobs and the Commonwealth’s economy, unemployment rose for the 7th month in a row and is expected to continue to rise. With leaders like Sears cheering on the attacks instead of standing up to protect Virginia jobs, experts are concerned that an affordability crisis in Virginia will only continue.
As Sears rolls back Virginians’ fundamental rights, fails to disclose private flights, and backs Trump’s attacks on Virginia jobs, this week is more proof that Virginians can’t trust Sears and with her, it’s Virginians who stand to lose the most.

Unearthed Survey Exposes Sears’ Opposition to Workplace Protections, Adoptions, Marriages for Gay Virginians
Virginia Mercury: Sears “responded ‘yes’ [..] she would vote to block same-sex couples from adopting children and oppose workplace protections for gay people, and she indicated that she believed homosexuality is an ‘immoral lifestyle choice.’”
VIRGINIA – Yesterday, the Virginia Mercury unearthed a candidate questionnaire in which Winsome Earle-Sears said that she would oppose workplace protections for gay people, block same-sex couples from adopting children and that she believes homosexuality is an “immoral lifestyle choice.” Sears has an extensive record attacking Virginians’ fundamental freedoms and extreme agenda that’s out of step with the vast majority of Virginians.
Politico Columnist Jonathan Martin commented on X: She’s [Sears is] just far more culturally conservative than what Va is in 2025.
