Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-VA04), speaking on SiriusXM’s Politics of the United States show:

“Well, you know, we can pick up at least two, if not three, if not four, in this environment, seats, even with these current maps. I think Virginia voters are angry at what the Trump administration is doing, raising costs on everything, stripping health care and food assistance from millions. They’re angry about what the Supreme Court has done and they sent a message coming out in this special election. I think they’re going to send a message in these midterms and we’re going to organize and mobilize and make sure we pick up as many seats here in Virginia as possible.”
[Question: “So based on what the state Supreme Court ruled last week, that 4-3 decision, does this give Democrats the chance to redraw the lines in 2028?”] “That is possible. I mean…they can do another constitutional amendment and get it on the ballot and they can do that in time for the 2028 election. I’m sure they are looking at at the possibility of doing that.”
[Question: “You’re in Washington, not Richmond, but there have been a number of stories about how there’s been a push to potentially change the makeup of the state Supreme Court in Virginia. What is your view?”] “You know, that’s something that the General Assembly will have to decide. I can’t control that. What I can control is mobilizing and organizing voters all over Virginia and frankly all around the country. Because the Supreme Court has now opened the door for Southern states to gerrymander however they want, to eliminate and dilute Black voting political power. And…we’re seeing them rushing to do that already. And so I am focused on the political fight. I will leave…the state legislative fight and the legal fight to the General Assembly and the state Attorney General.”
