"Wittman’s vote for the [Big Ugly Bill] last year has already had devastating impacts."

Great stuff from VA01 Democratic nominee Shannon Taylor, calling out her Republican opponent, Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA01) for having voted “to gut healthcare” and to harm “families and care workers across the district.” So today, unlike Wittman – who clearly doesn’t give a flying you-know-what about the people of his district – Taylor, who hopefully will be VA01’s next member of Congress starting in January 2027, spoke with “caregivers, health care workers, union members, and families who shared their personal experiences navigating a broken healthcare system that Wittman has only made worse.” Go Taylor!

Prosecutor Shannon Taylor Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Rob Wittman’s Votes to Slash Virginians’ Healthcare

Henrico, VA – Shannon Taylor, Henrico’s top prosecutor and candidate for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, joined SEIU and the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC for a roundtable on how Rob Wittman’s votes to gut healthcare are hitting families and care workers across the district.

Taylor heard directly from caregivers, health care workers, union members, and families who shared their personal experiences navigating a broken healthcare system that Wittman has only made worse.

“I’ve spent my career prosecuting people who hurt families to line their own pockets. Rob Wittman did the same thing with his votes,” said Taylor. “He gutted healthcare so he could give himself and corporate special interests a tax break and now families in this district are the ones paying for it. I’m going to fight to undo the damage he caused.”

Rob Wittman’s vote for the “One Big Beautiful Bill” last year has already had devastating impacts. It resulted in the largest healthcare cuts in history — doubling and tripling premiums, stripping Virginians of coverage, and pushing rural hospitals toward closure. As a result of his vote”:

  • The expired subsidies have pushed 94,000 Virginians off their insurance so far.

  • Nearly 350,000 Virginians are at risk of losing health coverage as marketplace and Medicaid enrollment collapse under the law.

  • Three clinics have already closed in Virginia, and 13 hospitals — including Rappahannock General right here in VA-01 — are at risk of closing next.

  • Healthcare premiums have soared 23% for Virginians in 2026, forcing families to pay more or drop coverage altogether.

  • Wittman personally profited — his tax break on his luxury beach house was worth more than some of his constituents make in a year.

  • Wittman failed to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits time and time again despite promising that he would address the issue, and now healthcare premiums have already officially skyrocketed for hundreds of thousands of Virginians.

“Congressman Rob Wittman voted to make an already stressed system a catastrophe for millions of families. For the past decade, our organization has focused on one fundamental challenge: making it possible for families to afford the care they need at every stage of life,” said Sondra Goldschein, Executive Director of the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC. “Shannon Taylor understands that families can’t get ahead when the cost of childcare, eldercare, and healthcare keeps climbing, and the damage done by Rep. Wittman’s votes to cut Medicaid, SNAP, and other key programs Virginians depend on.”
