Report: Inflation and Grocery Prices Spike Due to Jen Kiggans’ and Donald Trump’s Iran War

Iran War pushes inflation to highest rate in nearly three years

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A new report from The Washington Post found that grocery prices spiked last month at their fastest rate in four years while inflation reached its highest level in nearly three years as Jen Kiggans and President Donald Trump’s war in Iran and failed policies continue to squeeze Virginians. This report comes in the wake of President Trump openly declaring that he doesn’t even “think about Americans’ financial situation.”

According to the report, skyrocketing energy costs and tariffs continue to raise grocery prices and could continue for months. Costs soared for fresh produce and beef last month according to data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics.

“Jen Kiggans voted to give President Trump a blank check for his war in Iran that is raising gas prices and energy costs while also voting to keep his cost-spiking tariffs in place,” Rep. Luria said. “We can’t expect Coastal Virginians to get ahead when they continue to get squeezed by soaring grocery bills, gas prices, and energy costs that are a direct result of Jen Kiggans’ and President Trump’s failed policies. When I get to Congress I will do what Kiggans hasn’t: fight back against reckless cost-spiking policies, and prioritize the people of Hampton Roads over the President so we can make life affordable again for working families.”

Jen Kiggans has established a pattern of promising Virginians one thing in public, only to turn around and vote the other way in Washington. Kiggans lied when she promised to protect access to health care, only to turn around and vote for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Kiggans lied when she said she would extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, but then voted to allow health care premiums to skyrocket. Kiggans lied again when she promised to protect clean energy tax credits, but then “flip-flopped” and voted to take a “sledgehammer” to the credits instead. Kiggans has voted 100% of the time with Donald Trump – demonstrating that she puts her D.C. party bosses ahead of the Virginians she claims to represent.

Kiggans was a major proponent of DOGE even as the agency wrecked Virginia’s economy and hurt veterans. Local media reported that “Kiggans embraced the program from the outset” and even said DOGE was “so necessary.” It has been reported that Kiggans’ backing of DOGE led to “the termination of more than $8.3 million in grants and leases tied to the district, including funding streams connected to veterans services and facilities.”
