There are, of course, some REALLY horrible Republican members of Congress, including from right here in Virginia – for instance, Rep. John McGuire (R-VA05) and Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA06) are pretty much the worst of the worst, while Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA01) and Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02) are awful as well. But one horrendously bad member of the U.S. House, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA09), often sneaks under the radar for several reasons: 1) he’s in one of the Trumpiest, reddest districts in America, so he’s never in a competitive election; 2) he’s definitely not a leader, definitely doesn’t have anything interesting to say, definitely doesn’t put forth any legislation that would help his constituents; etc. But one thing Griffith IS good at is making a complete fool of himself, disgracing his district, Virginia, the US House and the country in the process. A few cases in point include:
- Far-Right-Extremist/Bigot Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA09) Brags, “I am a member of the Sharia-Free America Caucus in Congress to fight back against Islamic fanaticism infiltrating our communities.”
- For Signing on to Seditionist TX Lawsuit, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA09) Rightly Ripped on His FB Page as “TRAITOR. COWARD. DOUCHEBAG”; “Spineless Jellyfish,” a “Disgrace to the Office,” etc.

In short, Rep. Griffith is the absolute dregs, also one of the biggest downgrades in US House representation in Virginia history (from the excellent Rick Boucher to this clown), although probably still not the biggest downgrade, as we’ve still got VA05, where it went from the SUPERB Tom Perriello in 2008-2010 to…yeah, the odious John McGuire (who was literally in the pr0-Trump mob outside the US Capitol on 1/6/21, who basically got zero bills passed when he was in the Virginia General Assembly, is a 100% Trump sycophant/bootlicker now)…
Anyway, yesterday evening, Rep. Griffith took to his Facebook page, posting a screenshot of a (far-right-extremist, racist, etc.) “Libs of TikTok” screed about the horrendous crash the other day on I-95 in Stafford County early Friday morning (5 killed, 44 injured – horrible!). So a responsible member of Congress would wait for the investigation to take place, express condolences at the loss of life, and certainly not jump to conclusions – let alone ones based on unfounded assumptions about what happened, exactly. But that’s just what Rep. Griffith did, totally irresponsibly. Fortunately, the comments on his Facebook post called him out for it – not that he cares, but still, it’s good to see. For a few of the best and/or top-rated responses, see below.
- “‘I don’t know anything but I’m going to blame immigration for every problem.’ In the 1930s, who would you have blamed for Germany’s problems?”
- “At this point your account is just for rage baiting your constituents right? There’s no way an actual congressman would repost an unverified source that does nothing but feed garbage. There’s zero evidence this has anything to do with sanctuary policies.”
- “The driver didn’t stop when traffic in front of him did. There’s no reading English needed to see the brake lights ahead and know to stop. It was 2 AM, he may have been asleep.”
- “1. He is a naturalized US citizen so this has nothing to do with sanctuary policies. 2. If he had a CDL which is likely did because this is a full size charter bus. That test was given to him in English. That’s already a CDL requirement. 3. There’s exactly one source allegeding he can’t speak or read English and that is completely unverified. 4. No other source is reporting that he refused to take any test besides “libs of TikTok” which by the way it’s shameful of you to share. He did refuse to take a test, but not a driving related test. The test he refused to take was AFTER his arrest. He’s entitled to his right to remain silent and not assist the prosecution in his case. This is just racist fear mongering because he’s Chinese.”
- “While we don’t yet know the cause of the wreck…” …I’m going to go ahead and make a bigoted assumption. How many ways can Congressman Morgan Griffith be racist? This post is absurd.”
- “While this is tragic, and I do not know the whole story, my first reaction was – ole’ griffith – your xenophobia shines through.”
- “Passing on conspiracy is unbecoming of a congressman. No one other than conspiracy theorist has said anything about English proficiency from the OFFICAL investigation. Yet conspiracy sites are all over spreading misinformation.”
- “Pretty bad that in your own post you had to essentially say “this might not have anything to do with the point I’m making, but it involved a naturalized citizen (who took the oral citizenship. Which is done in English btw). Therefore I’ll use it, though unrelated, to push the ‘blame the immigrants’ narrative.” As for those of you saying, “but 5 people were killed and you don’t care” (and you Morgan for pushing this malarkey) when we point that out, you’re missing the point. Yes we care. Tragic as it is. We’re just not going to blame an entire group based on an unrelated article to the point. Do you blame an entire group when other crimes happen or just immigrants? Do you want to abolish priests and pastors as a group because of crimes committed by a small group towards children? Did you speak the same when Jan 6 rioters were pardoned and committed all crimes? Do you blame yourself when members of your own race commit a mass shooting (we know it’s not the guns fault. So do you let that slide as an individual mistake when they look like you, black, white)?
- “What does speaking g English have to do with not recognizing that traffic has stopped in front of you? You think at 3 am he was tired? Perhaps he should have taken a break? Perhaps we should wait for the results of the Investigation. Perhaps you should speak English at your multiple community meetings that you don’t hold.”
- “Any reports on how many crimes have been committed by the pardoned January 6 rioters?”
So yeah, all of these responses are excellent. Now, the question is, will the “mainstream” media ever report that Rep. Morgan Griffith is an unhinged conspiracy theorist, bigot, etc? Oh god, no, they couldn’t possibly do that, wouldn’t be “objective” or “neutral,” right? LOL Also, is there any reason why Democratic members of the US House, including from Virginia, should have anything to do with a racist lunatic like Griffith? Wouldn’t it be better to just ostracize the guy, treat him like the pariah that he is? Why legitimize him in any way/shape/form by posing for group photos, treating him as a legitimate colleague, etc? I mean, sure, the business of Virginia has to get done and all, but Griffith’s certainly got nothing positive to contribute along those lines, so what’s the point???
