Just as the “mainstream” (in air quotes) political media in Virginia last year relentlessly whitewashed/normalized/sanewashed right-wing extremists Winsome Earle-Sears, John Reid and Jason Miyares, and just as the “mainstream” media did the same with Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential campaign, these same people are now busy whitewashing the potential Republican opponents to Sen. Mark Warner this fall. For instance, check out this article by “Center Square”, which describes Republican U.S. Senate primary candidate Bert Mizusawa (currently the overwhelming favorite on Kalshi to be the 2026 VA GOP nominee) as follows:
“Mizusawa has centered his campaign on national security, military experience and reducing the size of the federal intelligence bureaucracy while highlighting his service in the Army and his role advising President Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign.”
Totally bland and innocuous; if anything, they make Mizusawa seem like a normal, standard-issue, old-school Republican focused on national security, the military, etc. As does this short/weak article by WVTF, which has minimal information on any of the candidates (for Mizusawa, it quotes him as follows: “If there’s one thing that we should learn from this redistricting amendment, it’s that they have ulterior motives. And I believe that’s true with all three of these amendments”). As does this article in the Cardinal News, which has a bunch of innocuous and/or positive stuff about Mizusawa (“retired U.S. Army major general who went on to serve as a deputy undersecretary of the Army and, notably, a staff member on the Senate Armed Services Committee”; “his staff experience on the Senate Armed Services panel gives him a unique perspective”; “an attorney, recognizing and understanding the importance of the judicial branch”) – but nothing about Mizusawa’s right-wing positions on abortion, the climate crisis, democracy, immigration, etc. FAIL.
So, since the “mainstream” media clearly won’t (ever) do its job, that leaves it to “citizen journalists,” activists, etc. to TRY and get the facts out about these far-right Republican politicians. Along those lines, see below for a couple audio clips of Mizusawa speaking at a June 6th Republican Senate debate in Leesburg, during which he made it CRYSTAL CLEAR that he’s running to serve Donald Trump. In the first clip, Mizusawa said something that – in a sane world – would be automatically disqualifying for anyone to hold ANY public office, let alone U.S. Senator!
“I want to help people down ticket as well as I help President Trump from the White House. I actually forwarded an idea to the White House, a little controversial, but I’m a lawyer, on how he could constitutionally serve a third term.”
So that, of course, is a former U.S. Army major general saying he’s cool with subverting the U.S. constitution, to which he swore an oath to defend and protect against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Well, so much for that oath, apparently, at least when it comes to turning Donald Trump into a dictator for life. Appalling.
Next, in the following clip, Mizusawa responds to someone who asks refers to “the way that everybody like these RINOs are like blocking funding for the ballroom.” Mizusawa responds:
“That’s crazy. I wanted to donate to it. If I weren’t running, I would.”
So here, Mizusawa is stating that he thinks that TAXPAYER MONEY should be used to pay for Trump’s corrupt, illegal ballroom that nobody other than Trump wants. Again, this should be disqualifying to hold public office, let alone U.S. Senator!
But no, don’t expect to have any of this stuff reported by the “mainstream” media, because despite their ridiculous claims to the contrary, they absolutely do NOT report “without fear or favor”; to the contrary, they report almost exclusivly WITH fear, WITH favor, and most of all, WITH the intention of maintaining their precious access, neutrality, blah blah blah. Even as the free press itself is under vicious assault by the very people they keep trying to appease…
