While Rep. John McGuire (R-VA05) was busy this week doing what he always does, namely cheerleading everything his cult leader, Donald Trump, says or does, it’s fascinating to listen to former Rep. Bob Good (R-VA05) – who McGuire narrowly defeated in 2024 for the Republican nomination, thanks to Trump’s support of McGuire over Good (who had committed the cardinal sin/heresy of endorsing Ron DeSantis over Trump for president) blasting Trump’s “socialist” “vote-buying” scheme. Check it out!
“Just a day or two ago, we heard the…vice president talking about paying stay-at-home moms $9,000 to take care of their children. And then the president…last night…saying, ‘hey…I am going to give every adult citizen $5,000 checks.’ Now, we would have called that a socialist vote buying scheme if Biden or Obama was doing it. But it’s interesting. I saw most so-called conservatives over the past few days defending and twisting and contorting themselves to try to rationalize the $9,000 pay moms to stay home and take care of their children. I’m seeing very few defend the $5,000 cash stimulus check the president announced last night if Republicans win the midterms…we’re supposed to be the party of fiscal responsibility! We’re supposed to be the party of the Constitution! And conservatism doesn’t mean criticizing bad policy just went Democrats do it. And and the $5,000 stimulus check that Trump talked about last night that exceeds the amount that he and Biden together gave out during Covid, and the national debt which is what by the way caused the affordability crisis, the stubborn affordability crisis, the stubborn inflationary policies, the high interest rates and so forth that we’re suffering under tonight that was caused primarily by the Covid era spending under Trump and Biden But back when that started, we had 27 trillion in debt. It’s about 50% higher than it was uh in 2020 when Covid hit. Now it’s $40 trillion. And Trump is proposing more than what he and Biden did together during Covid. And the consequence of that, think about the $5,000, Rob. It only takes about $400 a month in higher cost, inflationary cost, and higher interest rates and so forth to eat up that $5,000 in a year. But that $5,000 would be layered upon all this other bad policy that’s happened and accumulated this debt and this inflation again, these higher interest rates. We would just be adding to it and hurting people, not helping people.”
BTW, if I were the Tom Perriello campaign, I’d be all over this – blast out this interview far and wide!
