The following press release from former Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn announces her campaign for the Democratic nomination in VA10, which is open because of the tragic health situation of Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA10), who because of that will not be running for reelection next year. In addition to former Speaker Filler-Corn, other names mentioned as possible or likely to run for this nomination include: Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randal, State Sen. Jennifer Boysko, Del. Suhas Subramanyam, Del. Dan Helmer, Del. David Reid, former VA Secretary of Education Atif Qarni, Del. Michelle Maldonado, former Del. Ibraheem Samirah, former National Security Council official Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman and Jessica Post, “who formerly served as president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee” (per Axios), plus possibly others as well. Also note that if Filler-Corn wins this nomination and is elected to the U.S. House, she wouldn’t be running for governor in 2025, likely setting up a one-on-one contest for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination between Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA07) and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney. Stay tuned…
P.S. By the way, with so many Democratic candidates likely to run for the VA10 nomination, it really demonstrates the need for Ranked Choice Voting, given that one of these candidates could very well win with far less than the majority of the vote…
