SD10 Republicans Nominate “YakAttack” Founder Luther Cifers, Who Believes “life begins at conception. No exceptions.” to Replace John McGuire in the VA State Senate.

Late last night, Republicans nominated this guy, “YakAttack” founder/owner Luther Cifers, as their nominee to replace John McGuire – who’s headed to Congress to represent VA05 – in the Virginia State Senate (District 10). This is a deep-red district, so it’s highly likely that the 1,000 or so Republicans in Goochland County last night will have decided the next State Senator for the district of 200k people. Democracy, huh? Also newsworthy from last night is that former State Sen. Amanda Chase lost badly – presumably because she pissed off a LOT of her fellow Republicans, not because she’s a far-right extremist, but just because she’s constantly attacking them, burning her bridges, etc. See below for a few of reporter Tammy Purcell’s tweets from the “Mass Meeting” last night.

As for Cifers, check out his website for his hard-right positions on the issues, as well as his numerous (wild) misstatements/lies:

• “The Policies in Richmond have kept incomes from keeping up with inflation and Virginians are struggling.” This is 100% false, absolutely zero basis in fact. Also terribly written – “The Policies in Richmond”, WTF?)
• “Over the past four years we have seen inflation increase and the value of the dollar shrink.” – This is also wildly false (in fact, inflation is down to around 2.7% or so, which is very close to the Fed’s target). As for the value of the dollar, it’s actually UP over the past five years (also see here – ” Since early 2021, the dollar has generally trended stronger”).
• Two more flat-out lies: “Lowering taxes increases the tax base. With Biden-omics bringing inflation, we need to allow Virginians to have a chance.” In fact, lowering taxes reduces the tax base (obviously). And “Biden-omics” [sic] absolutely did NOT bring inflation – that was a worldwide phenomenon caused by supply-chain problems headed out of the COVID pandemic, a surge in demand as the economy recovered, etc.
• On the Second Amendment, he says, “I believe our constitutional rights are bestowed upon us by God and it is the government’s role to protect those rights, not infringe upon them. I am a strong supporter of the right to bear arms.” In fact, our constitutional rights come from human beings – the Founding Fathers, etc. – writing up a constitution, Bill of Rights, etc.
• He’s 100% anti-reproductive-freedom: “I am Pro-life, life begins at conception. No exceptions.” If life begins at conception with no exceptions, that means that women who are raped, girls who are the victims of incest, etc. would be forced to carry the babies to term; also, that would outlaw several forms of contraception, embryonic stem-cell research, etc.

In sum – in a sane world, someone like this definitely doesn’t belong in the State Senate. Let’s hope Democrat Jack Trammell can pull off a miracle in the SD10 special election on January 7, 2025.

P.S. Note that Cifers was endorsed by former State Senator Amanda Chase, a far-right-extremist/nutjob, after she was eliminated from the running. That kinda says it all about Cifers…
