Far-right/MAGA extremist/insurrectionist John McGuire, one of the worst/least-productive State Senators and Delegates in recent years (a godawful 3/27 bills passed/introduced over the past two years), will now be going to the US House to (mis)represent VA05, because apparently the heinous Bob Good wasn’t bad enough for the majority of voters there. Ugh. Anyway, with McGuire headed off to make the US House a bit worse than it already is under Republican control, see here for McGuire’s resignation letter, which among other things states (my comments after McGuire’s verbiage in red):
- “Each year my team and I were able to pass bills where every democrat and every republican voted yes. It really is amazing what we can achieve when we put our differences aside, treat others with respect, and work as a team. In doing so, we can sometimes turn a no into a yes and the impossible to possible.” – Again, McGuire had one of the LOWEST “batting averages” in the Virginia General Assembly in terms of # of bills introduced vs. # of bills passed. Also, McGuire is hard right all the way, most definitely NOT a bipartisan or “work-across-the-aisle” kinda guy.
- “My team and I have been working with leadership and this morning I submitted my letter of resignation from the Virginia State Senate to Senator Louise Lucas, effective just before I get sworn into Congress the morning of January 3rd.” – McGuire could have submitted his resignation weeks ago, but for whatever reasons, decided to wait until basically the last minute.
- “My party, the Republican Party, has already scheduled a nomination process to identify my replacement, scheduled for this Friday 13, December. Many know, I have a reputation, with the help my consultant Sean Brown, of helping fellow Republicans campaign and win all over Virginia. It is my hope voters this Friday will choose a strong candidate who loves We The People, has a reputation of working with others as a team with respect, and someone who has never wavered on our core Republican values” – Interesting that McGuire didn’t endorse anyone to succeed him.
- “Many know we decided to run for Congress after receiving countless complaints around the 5th Congressional District about our current congressman for his disrespect towards fellow constituents. We have a country to save. We do not have time for that nonsense.” – No question, Bob Good has been horrible, but the idea that McGuire will be any better is laughable.
- “On November 5th, through the grace of God, Trump won” – Sure, if by “grace of God” McGuire actually means “curse of Satan” or whatever.
By the way, the SD10 Republican nomination will be determined this Friday in a so-called “mass meeting” at one location, in Goochland County. The candidates to succeed McGuire in this overwhelmingly “red” district are: 7 Republicans (Duane Adams, former State Sen. Amanda Chase, Alex Cheatham, Luther Henry Cifers III, Jean Gannon, Bryan Paul Hamlet, Shayne Snavely) and 1 Democrat (Jack Trammell). May the least-insane Republican win?
