ICYMI: Students Across Commonwealth Voting YES

Charlottesville, Va. — Today, University of Virginia students joined Senator Creigh Deeds and Delegate Amy Laufer on campus to rally support for a YES vote in the upcoming redistricting referendum. As Donald Trump continues to attack institutions of higher education across the country, students are stepping up to level the playing field for all Virginians.

“We’ve been pushed into a situation not of our choosing,” said Sen. Creigh Deeds. “Virginians can level the playing field and push back against Donald Trump by voting YES.”

“What’s happening in Texas, North Carolina, Florida, and Missouri isn’t normal,” said Delegate Amy Laufer added. “Trump attacked our universities and we are fighting back — stopping his power grab by voting yes.”

Among the UVA students supporting YES were Semony Shah and Addison Buck, President and Vice President of the University of Virginia College Democrats. “This administration is impacting our lives here at UVA and within our communities,” Shah said. “It is incredibly essential that students take a stand.”

With early voting underway, these students and leaders urged Virginians to make their voices heard in this critical moment. By voting YES, Virginians can stand up for fair representation and reject efforts to undermine democratic institutions.

Early voting is underway now through April 18. Election Day is April 21.
