Prince William Forum Canceled Because GOP Delegates Refuse to Debate

Prince William County, Va. – A candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters, Prince William Committee of 100, and the Prince William NAACP has been canceled because three GOP incumbent delegates have refused to attend.

Delegates Bob Marshall, Jackson Miller and Tim Hugo declined invitations to the forum – with Marshall stating explicitly that he would not debate his Democratic challenger, journalist and lifelong Manassas resident Danica Roem.

“Bob Marshall, Jackson Miller and Tim Hugo are running scared from their records and scared from their opponents,” said Virginia House Democratic Caucus spokeswoman Katie Baker. “Perhaps they don’t want to explain why they voted to deny 400,000 Virginians access to affordable health care, or maybe they don’t want to say why they voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Whatever their reasons, the people of Prince William County deserve the opportunity to hold their representatives accountable for their votes against women and their votes against health care. Our candidates will continue to stand in strong support of both.”

In addition to voting to block Medicaid expansion and voting to defund Planned Parenthood, all three men voted for a woman-shaming “Day of Tears” resolution that encouraged flags to be flown at half-staff on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Additionally, Marshall sponsored a discriminatory bathroom bill even more extreme than North Carolina’s HB2, while Miller stonewalled a bill that would have created a paid family leave program in Virginia. Hugo was one of only three was one of only three members of the 100-person House of Delegates to vote against legislation that would have empowered public high schools to teach students about the legal definition of consent.
