Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Saturday, February 10.
- Trump will not release Democrats’ memo on FBI surveillance (Predictably disgraceful.)
- Kelly Willing to Step Down Over Accused Aide, Officials Say
- Third-highest ranking official at the Justice Department stepping down (Very, very troubling.)
- ‘Very turbulent’: Trump and White House consumed with turmoil amid abuse allegations (Only the best people, huh? Try the absolute scum of our country…)
- Trump defends top official accused of domestic abuse: ‘He did a very good job’(One abuser of women defends another abuser of women.)
- Second White House official departs amid abuse allegations, which he denies (Men who abuse women, children or animals are the worst of the worst.)
- As Jared Kushner’s security clearance is delayed, White House hesitates to act on others with possible problems
- Must we swear an oath to Trump? (“In the president’s world, when he gives a speech with applause lines, it is your duty, as an American, to clap.”)
- Trump concocted a story about a border agent’s death. The truth won’t catch up. (“Falsehoods about immigration, about the budget — about everything — have already done their damage.” A torrent of lies and misinformation pours from right-wing media basically every day. It needs to be ignored and/or condemned.)
- Trump and Kelly deserve each other (Two really bad people.)

- Trump believes the men(“The president has consistently responded to the allegations of assault or abuse against women by expressing sympathy for the men being accused.” Which, of course, is the polar opposite of what he should be doing, which is of course to believe the women!)
- At Olympics opening ceremony, Pence refuses to stand for any country except the U.S. (“Mike Pence isn’t feeling the Olympic spirit.”)
- Trump won’t read his daily intelligence briefing (“What could possibly go wrong?”)
- The resistance gets rolled (“The budget debate shows that the activist left lacks the kind of pull with Democrats that tea partiers once enjoyed with Republicans.”)
- Fox News pulls executive’s column on U.S. Olympic team diversity (Yeah, but this bigot is still “Fox News’ executive editor and executive vice president”)
- Pence criticizes North Korea for throwing military parade, praises Trump for doing the same (Pence has literally zero self awareness – or honesty, integrity, etc.)
- Solar Jobs Fell for the First Time in 7 Years in 2017. Now Trump Could Make It Worse. (Note that if Hillary Clinton were president, she’d be busy pushing for a rapid transition to clean energy.)
- House Intelligence Dems: This Russia Investigation Kind of Sucks (“The tussle over the Nunes memo reveals how lousy the investigation actually is.”)
- Kaine: We have ‘a complete moral vacuum in the Oval Office’ (It’s incredible how far we’ve fallen from the exemplary Obama administration to this nightmare.)
- Tim Kaine demands release of memo outlining legal basis for U.S. airstrikes in Syria
- Field operations director for Nick Freitas’ Senate campaign called women b*tches on Facebook
- 5th District Democrats may switch from convention to primary to choose Rep. Tom Garrett opponent (“Members of the 5th District Committee held a late-night conference call Thursday, during which they discussed the matter at length in a closed session. But they ultimately made no decision, leaving in limbo the five Democrats seeking to oppose U.S. Rep. Tom Garrett, R-Buckingham, in November’s general election.”)
- Feds will find few locals who think oil rigs off Virginia help our state and region (It’s an incredibly stupid idea.)
- House panel backs expanded work proposal with Democratic support as Medicaid talks advance (“House Bill 338 now includes nine exemptions for Medicaid recipients from requirements that they either have a job, enroll in educational or workforce training programs, take care of someone with chronic illness, or engage in community work or public service. It also allows the state to waive the work requirement in areas with unemployment rates at 150 percent or more of the state average.” Here are a few of the exemptions: “The requirement for participation in the Program shall not apply to children under the age of 18 or individuals under the age of 19 who are participating in secondary education; individuals age 65 years and older; individuals who qualify for medical assistance services due to blindness or disability, including individuals who receive services pursuant to a § 1915 waiver; individuals residing in institutions; individuals determined to be medically frail; individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness; pregnant and postpartum women; former foster children under the age of 26; and individuals who are the primary caregiver for a dependent, including a dependent child or adult dependent with a disability”)
- Suspending common sense in Virginia (“Virginia currently suspends nearly 39,000 driver’s licenses annually for drug offenses unrelated to driving. This is a relic of the war on drugs, and, while most states have opted out of the federal law that created these automatic suspensions, Virginia motors on.”)
- Virginia’s hopes of ERA ratification go down in flames this year (Unlike the corporate media, Blue Virginia has extensive video of what went down in the House and Senate yesterday.)
