See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (8/2), in Virginia we’re at 91,782 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,955 hospitalizations and 2,218 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 981 (+1.1%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 913 (+1.0%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,242,355 (up 13,330 from 1,229,025 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 45 (+0.6%), from 7,910 to 7,955, which is the same rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 44 (+0.6%).  Deaths are reported up 3 (from 2,215 to 2,218), compared to an increase of 41 (from 2,174 to 2,215) the previous day.
