So, at this point (9/1), in Virginia we’re at 121,615 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 9,621 hospitalizations and 2,612 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 1,021 (+0.8%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 847 (+0.7%). The number of PCR test results was 1,593,368 (up 12,077 from 1,581,291 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 52 (+0.5%), from 9,569 to 9,621, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 14 (+0.1%). Deaths are reported up 32 (from 2,580 to 2,612), compared up 11 (from 2,569 to 2,580) the previous day.
