See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (1/31), in Virginia we’re at 504,779 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 21,409 hospitalizations and 6,464 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 2,558 (+0.5%) in the latest statistics, which is the same rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 4,309 (+0.9%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 72 (+0.3%), which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 96 (+0.5%). Deaths are reported +15, compared to +70 the previous day. The number of PCR-ONLY test results is currently at 5,234,155 (up 23,920 from yesterday).

According to a note by VDH, “Surveillance system upgrades occurring on Saturday, January 30, 2021, will affect the data on the COVID-19 Cases & Testing Dashboards on January 31 and February 1, 2021. A decrease in the number of cases and tests reported on January 31, and an increase in the number of cases and tests reported on February 1 is anticipated because of these upgrades.”
