Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Saturday, October 15. Also check out President Obama’s weekly address, this time on “how we can empower people through science, technology, and innovation to lead our communities, our country, and our world in the future.”

Robert Reich captures my feelings on this:

If this weren’t so frightening it would be pathetic. Today Trump dismissed additional claims by women of his past sexual misconduct, saying that one of his accusers wouldn’t have been his “first choice” based on her attractiveness. Hello? Does Trump even understand what he’s saying? Every time he opens his mouth he proves his disrespect for half of the voting population of the United States, and his utter lack of self-awareness.

He also blamed the allegations on a media conspiracy that included Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. “This whole thing is one big fix,” he said. “It’s one big, ugly lie. It’s one big fix.” Besides being a pathological narcissist, Trump is aso paranoid.

The fact that this man is so close to the presidency – nominated to the most powerful office in the world by one of the nation’s two major political parties – becomes more mind-blowing by the day.

HFA Statement on Trump’s Comments about the Election

HFA Campaign Manager Robby Mook offered the following statement in response to Trump’s tweets and statements about the election:

“Campaigns should be hard-fought and elections hard-won, but what is fundamental about the American electoral system is that it is free, fair and open to the people. Participation in the system—and particularly voting—should be encouraged, not dismissed or undermined because a candidate is afraid he’s going to lose. This election will have record turnout, because voters see through Donald Trump’s shameful attempts to undermine an election weeks before it happens.”
