The Veterans’ Alliance for Security and Democracy (VETPAC) is proud to endorse former Governor Tim Kaine for Virginia’s open Senate seat. Tim believes this nation has a responsibility to honor the service and sacrifice of its military men and women, its veterans, and their families. Tim will continue Virginia’s tradition of strong advocacy for its service members.

“The Senate race in Virginia is one of the most important in the country in 2012, and that’s why VETPAC could not be more excited to endorse Governor Kaine,” said VETPAC President Justin Ford. “Governor Kaine has a long record of supporting both veterans and strong national security policies. We are extremely confident that, as Senator, Tim Kaine will continue to support initiatives that benefit Virginia’s vibrant military community.”

As Governor, Tim stood behind Virginia’s active duty, reserve and National Guard military service members. He improved veterans’ access to services by streamlining government bureaucracy and signed legislation to establish the Virginia Wounded Warrior initiative that expanded treatment for veterans’ mental health.

As Senator, Tim has pledged to follow in the footsteps of Senator Jim Webb, a veteran himself, who has separately endorsed Tim, to improve veterans’ access to educational opportunities through efforts like Senator Webb’s Post 9/11 GI Bill. Tim also supports the bipartisan “VOW to Hire Heroes Act,” which encourages the hiring of unemployed veterans.

Tim’s balanced approach to deficit reduction, which emphasizes both new revenues and significant cuts, will protect Virginia’s military installations and programs that are important to the health and training of our returning veterans. To address the unacceptably high veteran unemployment rate, Tim will work with the Department of Defense to establish a basic protocol so active duty military members receive meaningful and transferable civilian credentials and certifications for skills they obtain during service.
