So, it looks like Quinnipiac’s Virginia poll (McAuliffe by 4 points) is very much in line with Public Policy Polling (McAuliffe by…yep, 4 points). Detecting a pattern here? Oh, by the way, anyone who reported the Roanoke College “poll” as a serious poll is either a partisan hack or has no clue how bad Roanoke College’s “polling” is. For more on that subject, see here and here. In contrast, both PPP and Quinnipiac are rated as high-quality pollsters whose results can be trusted. Roanoke College’s “poll,” which has been a complete and utter travesty for a couple years now. With that, here are the Q-Poll highlights:
*”A yawning gender gap in the Virginia governor’s race leaves Democrat Terry McAuliffe with a slight 43 – 39 percent lead over Republican State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.”
*”Since May 16, McAuliffe’s net favorability has improved 6 percentage points while Cuccinelli’s net favorability has dropped 6 points.” (Except Cuccinelli’s to keep declining, as voters learn about what a nut he is.)
*”The controversy surrounding Gov. Bob McDonnell will not affect their vote for governor, 70 percent say, while 14 percent say it makes them less likely to vote for Cuccinelli and 10 percent say it would make them more likely to vote for him.” (Note: This differs sharply from PPP, which tweeted that “McDonnell could be liability this fall- 29% say they’re less likely to vote for candidate supported by him, 13% more”)
*”Virginia voters support 50 – 43 percent allowing same-sex couples to marry in the state.” Support is lopsided among Democratic and Independent voters. Guess who’s the exact opposite? That’s right, our friends the Teapublicans. Shocker, huh?
*On the LG and AG races, the candidates have close to ZERO name ID. For instance, 90% of Virginia voters say they “haven’t heard enough” about Ralph Northam to have an opinion; 88% say that for Mark Herring; 85% for Mark Obenshain; and even 81% for EW Jackson, who has gotten tons of media attention.
*32% of Virginia voters think that Bob McDonnell was involved in some sort of wrong-doing, with 16% saying he wasn’t, and 52% either having no opinion or refusing to answer.
*Only 4%(!) OF Republicans think that Gov. McDonnell should resign.
