Sam Seder nails it here, I’d just add three questions. First, is there any evidence whatsoever that market forces on their own will protect the public from dangerous chemicals in their drinking water, or from an exploding fertilizer plant or a deadly oil train derailment, etc., etc? Second, is there any evidence at all that we can trust fossil fuel companies from trashing the planet (which they’ve been doing for decades now)? Third, can anyone top Robert Reich’s explanation for why poor states like West Virginia (and, I’d add, poor regions like SW Virginia) consistently vote against their own healthy, wellbeing, and self interest? (subtle hints: 1) NO!; 2) NO!!; 3) NO!!!).
