Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Friday, November 13.
- U.S. drone strike targets ‘Jihadi John’ (I definitely won’t shed a tear if this evil scumbag is dead.)
- Kurdish Iraqis enter Sinjar in push to oust IS fighters
- Burma’s pro-democracy party clinches landslide election victory (“The stunning victory was the culmination of a lifelong battle for Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who had endured years of house arrest and other hardships because of her views.” What an amazing story ongoing in Burma, a country of 53 million that most people probably can’t even locate on a map. It’s also far more interesting than most of the crap that passes for “news” in this country…)
- Defense Secretary Carter fires top military adviser over ‘misconduct’
- GOP elites near panic over dominance of Trump, Carson (Hahahahaha.)
- Donald Trump’s 95-minute rant: ‘How stupid are the people of Iowa?’ (The question is, are Iowa Republicans stupid enough to vote for Trump?)
- The secret history of GOP mythmaking: How the Republican Party abandoned facts in favor of propaganda (“The economy does better under Democrats than Republicans. So why do so many Americans think otherwise?”)
- The winner of the fourth GOP debate: Foolish economic policy (And of course political “reporters” utterly failed to report that.)
- Reminder: The right-wing media vetted Barack Obama, and it was an absolute disgrace (“Conservatives have convinced themselves Ben Carson is being persecuted by the left. Obama had it so much worse”)
- Ben Carson slams ‘infantile’ college protests (It’s really hard to decide which 2016 Republican presidential candidate I find most appalling. Yes, Carson is bonkers, but Trump is a racist, Rubio’s a slick Teabagger, Cruz is a smarmy extremist, Fiorinia is a pathological liar, etc, etc. Wasn’t the corporate media telling us a few months ago how “deep” this Republican field was? Yeah, like several feet down in a cesspool, maybe “deep” in that sense.)
- Paul Krugman: Republicans’ Lust for Gold (“Leading political figures insist that climate change is a gigantic hoax perpetrated by a vast international scientific conspiracy. Do you really think that their party will be persuaded to change its economic views by inconvenient macroeconomic data?”)
- McAuliffe all in for TPP, heading for India(“Gov. Terry McAuliffe gave a full throated endorsement to the Obama Administration’s Trans-Pacific Partnership Thursday, saying it would be good for Virginia exporters and represents “the largest expansion of labor rights in history.”)
- When the campus PC police are conservative: why media ignored the free speech meltdown at William & Mary (“Right-wing campus censorship just doesn’t rate”)
- Luxury resort gets OK for Virginia eagle site; opponents say fight goes on (Sounds like a really bad decision to me.)
- Black students take over VCU’s president’s office to demand changes
- Activists to Trump: You owe us 500 trees (As usual, Trump is a horrible person.)
- D.C. area forecast: Windy today and tomorrow as a brief taste of mid-fall takes over
