Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Thursday, November 12. Also check out Ellen Degeneres mocking the brain-dead backlash against Starbucks not having snowflakes, elves, Santa, reindeer, and “other stuff you find in the Bible.” Oh wait, none of that stuff’s in the Bible and none of it has anything to do with Jesus, the Gospels, etc? Sadly, that won’t stop Faux “News” et al from being OUTRAGED!!! Cuz that’s what they do — OUTRAGE!!!
- GOP’s Obamacare lie-fest: “Post-truth” politics dominated the Republican debate (“Nearly every word the candidates at this week’s GOP debate said about the Affordable Care Act was a lie” And on every other subject, too, but will the corporate media make THAT the headline, as opposed to who “won” and who “lost?” Nope.)
- The 10 most obscene lies from the fourth GOP debate (“As is their wont, the Republican candidates presented a country that bears no relation to the one in which we live”)
- Kurds, Backed by U.S. Air Power, Try to Regain Sinjar From ISIS
- This man is a wingnut: Why Marco Rubio is as extreme as the rest of the lot (Again, the corporate media is utterly failing to do its job.)
- 10 right-wing conspiracy theories that have slowly invaded American politics (“Paranoia is in our bloodstream. And with the emergence of social media, we’re more misinformed than ever before”)
- Suu Kyi wins seat in Myanmar vote (“Myanmar’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has won her parliamentary seat, official results showed Wednesday, leading a near total sweep by her party that will give the country its first government in decades that isn’t under the military’s sway.”)
- Republican rivals wary of challenging Rubio as he rises
- Ben Carson is the Anointed One (“He has suffered a series of trials that would doom a mortal politician.”)
- There’s a Horrifying Pork Factory Video Going Around. The Story Behind It Is Even Worse. (“The pus-covered meat, poop-caked pigs, and snoozing employee? That’s supposed to be a model for the rest of the industry.” The meat industry in this country is utterly appalling. Don’t purchase anything from it, ever.)
- Dr. Ben Carson tells Liberty crowd that his faith challenges the media (No, his constant lies, misstatements, bizarre stories, freakish comments about Nazis and whatever, is what challenges millions of people, not just “the media.”)
- America’s states are flunking the ethics test (“Virginia remains one of the few states that imposes no limits on donations to state political campaigns. While most states have ethics commissions, many of them, including the one recently established in Virginia, lack investigative and enforcement muscle, including the power to issue subpoenas.” None of which is remotely acceptable.)
- Jones: Medicaid rebase, K-12 rebenchmark mean big budget bites
- McAuliffe bond package: $3.5 billion … or is it? (“Cool those jets, McAuliffe spokesman Brian Coy said. The governor threw out a number – a total of around $3.5 billion, according to the report – but Coy says ‘he was just setting a ballpark.'”)
- Trump headed toward ballot access in Virginia
- Virginia Republicans are celebrating after last week’s elections. Maybe they shouldn’t be. (“The party lost ground in the suburbs and exurbs of Washington, where the population continues to grow.”)
- McAuliffe announces milestone in ending veteran homelessness (“Virginia is the first state to meet federal criteria for ‘effectively ending’ the problem.”)
- Reason to stand with the EPA (“VIRGINIANS prefer clean air to the alternative. After all, dirty air fouled our waterways with mercury, made the Chesapeake Bay’s dead zones worse, and for decades caused asthma and lung disease across Hampton Roads.”)
- Gillespie Forms PAC – ‘Next Step’ in His Bid for Virginia Governor (Feel the excitement! Not.)
- U.S. Supreme Court won’t hear Hamilton’s appeal
- Spelling Euille’s name wasn’t a problem; number of votes was
- Editorial: Richmond turns redevelopment, baseball plans into world-class debacle
- Inside Virginia’s Church-Burning Werewolf White Supremacist Cult
- Driven to hospital, Virginia man tased, shackled and dies in police custody (Ugh.)
- Wanted: Library director able to fix problems in Virginia’s largest system (“Fairfax County suspends search for director after several applicants — including its pick — withdraw.”)
- Former first lady critiques plan for wheelchair ramp at Executive Mansion (As if Jim Gilmore didn’t do enough damage to Virginia, now Roxane Gilmore weighs in…)
- Forecast: Breezy and warm
