“Today, on the Floor of the House of Delegates, I expressed my horror at the President’s new Executive Order, which closes the door to innocent people lawfully entering the USA, after fleeing for their lives from almost certain death. 75 years after the Holocaust, when Jews in a similar situation were turned away from our shores and sent to the gas chambers, it amazes me that some Americans still question whether or not we should be a refuge to those fleeing religious persecution. We were founded by immigrants fleeing religious persecution. It is part of our American DNA. We are the only nation on the planet founded by immigrants and for immigrants. This Executive Order is not just unconstitutional. It is un-American. And it’s time that our Republican colleagues call it out for what it is.”
