We are less than four days from Election Day. Four days that will determine whether we advance the long, difficult struggle towards liberty and justice for all. Whether we are a Commonwealth of inclusion or of division.
Virginia is the birthplace of American democracy and American slavery. We have always had a special burden of determining which trajectory defines us. Once again, Virginians are the first in the nation to answer the question in the Trump era – who are we?
Our actions between now and the close of polls on Tuesday will answer that question. And we all have a role to play. How many doors will you knock? How many friends will you recruit to join you?
Today, Blue Virginia, WinVA, Mobilize and other allied groups are issuing a challenge to see who can knock the most doors between today and Election Day.
Grab some friends to canvass together then go here to let us know the results. The five teams that knock the most doors before polls close Tuesday at 7pm will receive a homemade batch of Mama Perriello’s cookies and a case of Virginia brewed brew (or non-alcoholic apple cider). There will also be a special award for the team with the highest door to person ratio.
Too much is at stake to sit this election out: over the last four years Gov. McAuliffe has vetoed bills attacking voting rights, promoting discrimination against the LGBT community, funneling public education funding to private schools, defunding Planned Parenthood, and implementing the NRA’s agenda. We need Ralph Northam as our next Governor to keep us moving forward and be a brick wall against the worst of the conservative Republican agenda.Join me in signing up to volunteer and then visit here to join the #BlueVAChallenge.
Knock like the future of our Commonwealth and our democracy depends on it. Because it does.
