This past Sunday, Virginia’s First Congressional District Democratic candidates (John Suddarth, Vangie Williams, Edwin Santana) participated in a forum at the Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock, a small town located in a town in deep-“red” Lancaster and Northumberland counties on the Northern Neck. The forum was sponsored jointly by the Lancaster County and Northumberland County Democratic Committees. I’m told that event planners printed 80 programs, thinking that was overkill. In the end, I’m told that the main room maxed out at 125, with the library opening a second room and piping in the forum via closed-circuit TV, to accommodate the final headcount of 152 people (in a town of about 1,200 people). Also note that about half of the audience raised their hands when asked if this is the earliest they’ve ever been involved or paid attention to a Congressional race in the VA-01. That should definitely tell us something about where we’re at right now in this country, and where we could very well be headed in November (“blue wave” anybody?). With that, here’s video of the forum. I’ve endorsed Edwin Santana, and I think he did great in this forum, but of course the #1 priority is that one of these three Democrats defeats Rep. Rob Wittman (R) this November.
