If the Trump administration doesn’t follow the court ruling here, what are the penalties? Contempt of court? Don’t people sometimes get arrested for that?

Richmond, Va. – Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement on the Trump Administration’s deadline to reunite separated parents and children four-years-old and younger:

“Today, the Administration failed to meet the court imposed deadline to reunite parents and young children torn apart by President Trump’s cruel separation policy. This policy demonstrated a carelessness and an inhumanity of perilous proportions. Toddlers have been left to represent themselves in court or to explain their complicated circumstances to a stranger. Parents have been deported, leaving innocent young children stranded.

“I call upon my Republican colleagues in Congress to take swift action in the best interest of our children. I have co-sponsored the Keep Families Together Act to ensure that children remain with their parents. I implore my colleagues to join me in supporting this common sense legislation and remember the principles on which this country was founded and the basic humanity and decency that we expect. Let us do everything we can to ensure that all children are reunited with their families, as expeditiously as possible.”
