Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Sunday, July 22.

- Trump-Russia: FBI releases Carter Page wiretap documents (“Papers show bureau stating that Trump campaign adviser was conspiring with Russian government”)
- In private, Trump vents frustration over lack of progress on North Korea (Poor Donny, he’s been president for 1 1/2 years and he hasn’t cut any good “deals” – so much for the “art of the deal” dude.)
- Justice Dept. Releases Secret Carter Page Surveillance Documents at Center of Partisan Clash
- Trump’s Putin fallout: Inside the White House’s tumultuous week of walk-backs (“But roughly an hour into the flight, Trump’s mood darkened and grim reality set in as he consumed almost universally negative cable news coverage and aides began reviewing pages upon pages of printed-out statements from fellow Republicans lambasting the president.”)
- The G.O.P. Stands By as Trump Upends American Security (In the case of Corey Stewart, they do more than “stand by,” they actively cheer Trump on as he trashes America.)
- Trump Signals Consequences for Michael Cohen Over Secret Recording
- Schiff: Surveillance warrant docs show that Nunes memo ‘misrepresented and distorted these applications’
- Intel head says he did not intend to criticize Trump (Pitiful.)
- There Is a Revolution on the Left. Democrats Are Bracing. (The top reader pick in the comments section, with 1,253 recommends, says: “The language in this article reeks of bias. These ‘feisty challenges’, ‘leftist activists’, ‘socialists’ and ‘revolutionaries’ would be moderates in most other liberal democracies. We are facing an existential crisis, with near complete control by a plutocracy thst doesn’t care about our health, education, employment and civil rights. We want a government that cares about children, immigrants, those with pre-existing conditions, women, POC and the rule of law. If that is radical, leftist or socialist twhen it’s fine with me and millions more.” I also really like this comment: “I am a moderate democrat, but I welcome the more progressive voices with one caveat. If they lose their primary, they agree to work and support the eventual democratic nominee.”)
- Where Do ‘Centrist’ Democrats Turn in 2020? (“At a conference of the centrist Third Way organization in Ohio this week, there was a lot of interest in a Biden candidacy, but talk got more muted when alternatives were discussed.” The “Third Way” is still a “thing?” Alrighty.)
- Kavanaugh: Watergate tapes decision may have been wrong (“Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh suggested several years ago that the unanimous high court ruling in 1974 that forced President Richard Nixon to turn over the Watergate tapes, leading to the end of his presidency, may have been wrongly decided.” That alone should disqualify him.)
- Trump Supreme Court Nominee Kavanaugh Questioned Watergate Tapes Decision
- Trump Lines Up Fed Chairman as Fall Guy If Tax, Trade Moves Sour
- Pence Stumps for Candidate Who Said He Would Personally Round Up and Deport Immigrants (“With Trump’s support, Brian Kemp could become the GOP nominee for governor of Georgia.”)
- Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law claims another victim (“A Florida gunman won’t face charges for killing an unarmed man after starting an argument over a parking spot.” Totally f’ed up; that was murder, no doubt about it.)
- Virginia campaigns shape up as key to control of House (“Democrats appear to be one big happy family, with down-ballot Democrats eager to campaign with incumbent Tim Kaine…Stewart’s in-your-face style is too politically toxic for much of the state’s congressional GOP caucus.”)
- Video/Live Blog: Sen. Tim Kaine Debates Neo-Confederate Corey Stewart at The Homestead
- Trump looms large in first faceoff between Sen. Kaine and Corey Stewart (The key is that Corey Stewart demonstrated, yet again, that he is completely unhinged, nasty, extreme, lying, etc.)
- Kaine, Stewart go on offensive in first debate (This headline is absolutely ridiculous, “both sides”-ish bull****. That is NOT what happened yesterday and it’s a major disservice to readers to suggest so.)
- WATCH: Virginia GOP US Senate candidate drowned out by debate audience laughter for saying Trump is ‘standing up to Russians’
- Hours after debate, Kaine energizes supporters in Nelson County
- Christopher Cantwell, White Nationalist in Vice Video, Is Barred From Virginia
- Steve Haner column: Virginia has disclosure laws for lobbyists to follow. Most don’t.
- CASEY: ‘Under-the-radar’ law, and vacancy on SCC, fuel concerns about pipeline safety inspections (“A little-noticed law from 2016 means inspectors for the State Corporation Commission, rather than the federal Department of Transportation, will conduct safety inspections for the controversial Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines. Meanwhile, a longtime oil and gas lobbyist could soon be appointed to the SCC.” The latter is completely unacceptable.)
- RAM Clinic opens to large crowd in Wise, Va. (Good, although I really wonder why a lot of these people vote against things like Medicaid expansion…)
- Editorial: Who’s going to pay to fix I-81?
Editorial: Whitaker, now convicted, needs to go- Shower chances increase by afternoon; waves of rain through midweek
