Abigail Spanberger Raises Nearly $3.6M in Record-Breaking Q3 2018

HENRICO, VA — Today, Abigail Spanberger, Democratic nominee for Congress in Virginia’s 7th District, announced her campaign raised a record-breaking $3,596,588 during the 3rd quarter of 2018, the most ever in a quarter for any candidate in VA-07. With nearly 4,500 registered volunteers, Spanberger’s campaign and strong fundraising numbers reflect the on-the-ground enthusiasm and excitement for her campaign and build upon the previous 4 quarters where she has outraised her opponent, Representative Dave Brat.

Spanberger has not accepted any corporate PAC funds, and cycle-to-date, her campaign has raised nearly $1.2 million from VA-07 voters and $2.1 million from Virginia residents which is more local financial support than any candidate from either party in the history of Virginia’s 7th district, including former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

“From the beginning, our fundraising numbers always showed that we were building the foundation of our campaign right here, with voters in Central Virginia,” said Spanberger. “As we’ve turned this race into a toss-up, I am proud that so many people across the Commonwealth and country have joined to support our efforts. Our whole team is grateful for every person who has put their time, energy, enthusiasm, or money behind this campaign.”

“Abigail is talking about the issues that matter most to Central Virginia families,” said Campaign Manager Dana Bye. “From standing up for those with pre-existing conditions to protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits, she’s fighting to make the 7th district work for all families.” When Spanberger began her campaign in July 2017, the 7th district was rated as a safe/strong Republican district by all the major rating entities. Over the past year, Spanberger’s campaign has worked to make the district competitive, moving it to a “Toss Up.”

In addition to outraising all previous Democratic challengers in VA-07 and securing a spot in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s competitive “Red to Blue” Program, Spanberger has received high-profile endorsements, including EMILY’s List, End Citizens United, President Barack Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden, Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, Governor Ralph Northam, and Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax.

Abigail Spanberger is a proud Democrat and former CIA officer and the Democratic nominee running for Congress against Dave Brat in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. She believes in leadership that flows from our shared American values of integrity, responsibility, and decency, and she wants to work to move this country forward together.
