Asked a bit earlier today about “blackface” and about the allegations by Vanessa Tyson about Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax, U.S. Senator and (leading?) 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris had the following to say.
- On the accusations by Vanessa Tyson against Justin Fairfax, Sen. Harris said “I think that the the letter written by the woman reads as a credible account and I think there should be an investigation to get to the bottom of it and determine the facts.”
- Regarding the “blackface” controversy in Virginia, Sen. Harris said “the history of blackface in this country is the history of racism in this country, the history of slavery in this country, the history of Jim Crow in this country. It is something that is painful for most of us to see to hear about and to think about and it is for that reason deeply troubling that anyone in the 20th or 21st century would engage in that kind of behavior and it should be taken very seriously.”
