Courtesy of VPAP…this is certainly interesting. To put this $50k donation to Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax into perspective, note that in 1Q19, Fairfax had only $3,178 in receipts, with contributions drying up after Vanessa Tyson and Meredith Watson accused him of sexual assault. In fact, as far as I can tell from VPAP, this is the first contribution over $100 to Fairfax since January 8.
Also interesting – and I’m not sure exactly what to make of it – is that the contribution came from the Chairman and CEO of for-profit education company Kaplan, Inc. As for a possible connection, Rosen attended Duke University, as did Fairfax, so they do have that in common. I checked Rosen’s political donations, and here in Virginia, they’ve all been to Justin Fairfax or his PAC, while nationally, it appears that he’s donated to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Florida Democratic Party. The big question is whether this donation is a “one-off” or whether it indicates that Justin Fairfax’s PAC is back in business. We’ll see, I guess, in coming weeks and months…
