Eric H. Holder, Jr. Endorses 17 Candidates for Virginia State Legislature and NDRC Invests $250,000 Ahead of the November Elections
Washington, D.C. — Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chair of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, endorsed 17 candidates running for office in Virginia’s state legislative elections this November. All of the endorses candidates have signed NDRC’s Fair Districts Pledge which calls for can end to gerrymandering. Additionally, the NDRC is committing $250,000 to support Democrats running to flip seats in the House of Delegates and state Senate. This quarter million dollar investment will be split between early digital advertising and door-to-door voter contact in key races. NDRC is partnering with Common Good Virginia, Democratic Party of Virginia’s Take the Majority 2019, and the digital non-profit ACRONYM to engage voters well ahead of November.
“This November, Virginians have the opportunity to elect a state legislature that better reflects the people of the Commonwealth and makes sure there is a fair redistricting process in 2021,” said Eric H. Holder, Jr. “For nearly a decade, too many Virginians have been denied the full power of their vote through manipulated voting maps that have unfairly skewed election results and led to Republican majorities in the legislature that blocked Medicaid expansion for years and still fail to take action that would reduce gun violence. If elected, the candidates that I’ve endorsed will play a key role in ending the practice of gerrymandering and ensuring that Virginia has fair maps for the next decade. I’m proud to support these men and women who will be leading the charge this November and for years to come.”
