It’s so refreshing to see Democrat Dan Helmer, who defeated Republican Del. Tim Hugo (HD40) on 11/5 and is now Delegate-elect Helmer, now holding a town hall forum with his soon-to-be constituents. In the following forum, held in Haymarket a bit earlier today, Helmer was asked about a bunch of issues, from gun violence prevention to the ERA to the climate crisis to immigration to education. On ERA ratification, Helmer said point blank (just after 9 minutes into the video), “It’s going to happen next year…It’s a done deal.” On the climate crisis, Helmer said (around 16:30 in) “Virginia has been too far back of the pack for addressing climate change.” Helmer said we need to take this crisis seriously, by “driving our renewable portfolio standard much higher than they are today” and by “fully cost[ing] in the impact of emissions into our pricing of energy” and “by providing a new infrastructure that ensures that we are a leader on green jobs…in diversifying our energy resources.”
Good stuff. Now let’s make it happen!
